It was a truly memorable and worthwhile experience. I enjoyed while I was reading the articles of my contributors on the blog but also from other sources (XBRL Business Information Exchange, Hitachi Data Interactive, LinkedIn groups 1-2-3-4-5, Twitter stream…) and imagining how will our semantic future look like.

There were a lot of plans and ideas that are not implemented for various reasons:

I wanted to start a process of XBRL adoption in the local area and to convey the experience of it through the blog posts – No Understanding.

I planned to interview more important persons from this field; also my idea was to expand the site content with the articles about Semantic Web – No Time.

I planned to visit some important conferences and events and meet with important people in this area – No Money.

And then I decided to stop.

It’s time for me to dedicate more time and energy to my family, and to work on things that can provide us a source of livelihood.

So I’m going another way than XBRL.

Thank you all,
Ilija

Here you can find an explanation of the most important terms related to XBRL standard.

Here you can find an explanation of the most important terms related to XBRL standard.

AICPA – American Institute of Certified Public Accountants is the national, professional organization for all Certified Public Accountants (referring site: http://www.aicpa.org/).

EDGAR – Electronic Data-Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval system, performs automated collection, validation, indexing, acceptance, and forwarding of submissions by companies and others who are required by law to file forms with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (referring site: http://www.edgar-online.com/).

GAAP – Generally accepted accounting principles is the standard framework of guidelines for financial accounting. It includes the standards, conventions, and rules accountants follow in recording and summarizing transactions, and in the preparation of financial statements (referring site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GAAP).

IASB – Independent Standard-Setting Board is appointed and overseen by a geographically and professionally diverse group of Trustees (IASC Foundation) who are accountable to the public interest Supported by an external advisory council (SAC) and an interpretations committee (IFRIC) to offer guidance where divergence in practice occurs (referring site: http://www.iasb.org/).

IFRS – International Financial Reporting Standard is accounting regulations developed to guarantee comparable balance sheet preparation and disclosure (referring site: http://www.ifrs.com/).

Instance document contain the actual content that is being reported, and are validated by XBRL taxonomies.

Linkbase (or link database) refers to a document that contains collections of inbound and third-party links. This is the subset of the XLink specification that enables XBRL documents to be built from a collection of taxonomies.

Meta-data is “data about data”, of any sort in any media. An item of metadata may describe an individual datum, or content item, or a collection of data including multiple content items and hierarchical levels, for example a database schema. In data processing, meta-data is definitional data that provides information about or documentation of other data managed within an application or environment.

Schema together with linkbases define an XBRL taxonomy. The purpose of XBRL schemas is to define taxonomy elements (concepts) and give each concept a name and define its characteristics. It can be regarded as a container where elements and references to “linkbase” files are defined.

SEC – Securities and Exchange Commission is an independent agency of the United States government which holds primary responsibility for enforcing the federal securities laws and regulating the securities industry, the nation’s stock and options exchanges, and other electronic securities markets (referring site: http://www.sec.gov/).

Taxonomy is derived from the Greek words taxis meaning arrangement or division and nomos meaning law. XBRL Taxonomies are dictionaries of business terms and their corresponding tags.

XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) is an open standard which supports information modeling and the expression of semantic meaning commonly required in business reporting (referring site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XBRL).

XBRL International is a not-for-profit consortium of approximately 550 companies and agencies worldwide working together to build the XBRL language and promote and support its adoption (referring site: http://www.xbrl.org/).

XML – eXtensible Markup Language is a simple, very flexible text format derived from SGML (ISO 8879). Originally designed to meet the challenges of large-scale electronic publishing, XML is also playing an increasingly important role in the exchange of a wide variety of data on the Web and elsewhere (referring site: http://www.w3.org/XML/).
